Raiders NYC go down to TigersThe Canberra Raiders NYC have come up against an in-form Tigers outfit going down 40-10.
The match started at a feverish pace with both sides exchanging blows and attacking the others try line.
The Tigers were the first to strike in the end-to-end game when winger David Nofoaluma showed great speed to dive over in the right corner for a 4-0 lead after good work by second-rower Joel Luani and centre Matt Evans.
Canberra were not fazed and opened their account three minutes later when star half-back Mitchell Cornish stepped past prop Nathan Brown to slice through three defenders to score. He failed to convert his own try to leave Canberra trailing 6-4.
Cornish was at it again shortly after throwing a lovely inside ball to lock Hayden Crockett from five metres out saw Canberra take an 8-6 lead. Cornish converted the try for a 10-6 lead after 26 minutes.
Some sharp work by the Tigers saw Kyle Lovett and Joel Luani score tries before half time giving the home side an 18-10 lead at the break.
Both sides came out running in the second half but it was the Tigers who gained the ascendancy. A strong run from powerful forward Soni Paasi saw him crash over next to the posts in the 48th minute to give Wests Tigers a 22-10 lead. Rudolph converted the try for a 24-10 scoreline.
From there the flood gates opened up for the Tigers.
Brendan Santi stretched Wests Tigers lead to 28-10 after a good pass from half-back Conner Toia.
Santi then popped a brilliant short ball to send utility Jordan Marshall-King over for a try in the 77th minute. Rudolph converted the try for a 36-10 lead.
Just when it looked like that would be the end score for the match Marshall-King grabbed his second try when he ran 65 metres to dive over in the left corner for a 40-10 lead as the siren sounded.
The Raiders will look to bounce back next Monday when they take on the Cowboys at Canberra Stadium.
