Balmain Tigers Vs Canberra Raiders
SG Ball Cup Grand Final
St Marys Leagues Stadium, Saturday, May 5
Kick-off: 3.00pm
Broadcast: NSWRL Weekend Game-Cast and on @NSWRL Twitter

The Canberra Raiders will have the mental edge heading into the 2012 SG Ball Cup Grand Final having beaten the Tigers 40-8 in the elimination finals a few weeks ago. Both sides had to fight hard for their place in the Grand Final last weekend with the Raiders clawing back a 26-4 halftime deficit to record an astonishing 33-32 golden point victory over the Sydney Roosters, while the Tigers held off a fast finishing South Sydney side to win 34-26.

There is so much to like about this game. Some of the matchups between key players will not only decide who lifts the trophy but could also decide who pulls on a NSW jersey come State of Origin Game II. Mitchell Moses’ (Balmain) battle with Anthony Milford (Canberra) pits the competition’s two highest point scorers (and try scorers for that matter) against each other in a matchup which will go a long way to decide the outcome of this match.

A big challenge for the Raiders will be containing Balmain’s explosive back-rower Salesi Funaki out wide. The task will be given to Canberra’s second-row pairing of Scott Doyle and Josh Baker. Both model their game off the Raiders Shaun Fensom, tireless in defence and never shying away from a hit up. These two young men have their work cut out for them if they want to stop Funaki and ultimately take premiership glory back to the nation’s Capital.
