Joel Monaghan quits Raiders after photo scandal9 November 2010, 3:04 pmDisgraced Canberra Raiders player Joel Monaghan has quit the club in the wake the scandal which saw a photo of himself engaged in a lewd act with a dog being posted online.
The photograph was taken during the club’s Mad Monday celebrations and came into the public arena last week.
Monaghan who is understood to have resigned this morning will appear at press conference in Canberra later today alongside the club’s chief executive Don Furner.
The 28-year-old could have future playing league in the northern hemisphere with his manager Jim Banaghan beginning to talk with English Super League clubs.
If Monaghan had stayed with the club it’s believed the Raiders would have de-registered him from next year’s NRL but it has left open the opportunity for him to return to the club after potentially playing overseas.
