Canberra has edge despite Bennett: Hagan

FORMER Newcastle coach Michael Hagan believes the Knights are starting to play more like the St George Illawarra Dragons in their premiership-winning year under Wayne Bennett - but that could be good news for the Canberra Raiders.

While the Raiders have long held a hoodoo over the Dragons, losing just once to them in the past decade, Canberra coach David Furner also holds a surprising 5-1 record over Bennett-coached teams.

Hagan dismissed the statistic as ''just one of those things'', but said Canberra playing Newcastle immediately after a win over the Dragons could work in the Raiders' favour.

Hagan believes Bennett is slowly instilling a similar style he used at the Dragons to guide them to the 2010 premiership.
