The Canberra Raiders Toyota Cup team has received a boost ahead of the 2011 season, with local Canberra Company Chemworks joining the team as front of jersey sponsor for the season.

Raiders Toyota Cup players Haydon Hodge, Josh Papalii, Luke Berkery and Captain Sam Williams joined Sean and Peta Barnes from Chemworks at Raiders HQ today to launch the new strip.

Williams said it was great that the team was gaining recognition off the field for their efforts on field and thanked Chemworks for joining the team.

"The Toyota Cup has been a great introduction for young players and I know personally that having a national competition at this level has helped my game,” Williams said. “It's great to have our own sponsor in Chemworks for the upcoming season and hopefully we can win a few games and get them on TV more.”

Sean and Peta Barnes from Chemworks have been associated with the Raiders for almost a decade and Mr Barnes said he was happy to take the next step and sponsor the Toyota Cup team and help them build for the future.>>

“The Raiders have always had a proud history of developing junior talent and bringing exciting young players into the NRL and the Toyota Cup is a great pathway for these young guys to make it to NRL level,” Mr Barnes said. “We thought why not help this development by sponsoring the club through the Toyota Cup team.

"We're a local business who's been involved with the club for a number of years and helping the club at junior level has always been our focus. We've taken on a number of junior players on as boarders over the years and this is an extension of that.”>>

Raiders CEO Don Furner said the new sponsorship shows how prominent the Toyota Cup was becoming and said this new sponsorship is proof of this.

"The Toyota Cup has also developed a strong media profile in its short existence and from a business opportunity it's a great way to expose a brand,” Furner said.  “The coverage of the side on television through Fox Sports and the added attention it receives in the local Canberra media allows it to be the best covered junior competition of any sport in Australia.>>

“We would like to take the opportunity to thank Chemworks and we look forward to seeing the next crop of superstars emerge from this new team.”
