Raiders set to gamble on Tupou as injury crisis deepens

Raiders take a gamble on Tupou

The Canberra Raiders look set to gamble on mid-season signing Bill Tupou after Jack Wighton was ruled out of Sunday's home clash with North Queensland with a groin injury.

Wighton was named on the wing despite suffering the injury in last week's loss to the Souths, but has failed to prove his fitness.

Former Warrior Tupou trained strongly on Friday morning, and looks set to make his Raiders debut at right wing, despite only arriving in the capital on Sunday.

Dimitri Pelo was tipped as the other option, but the 28-year-old was absent at Friday morning's training run.

The loss of Wighton is a big blow for the injury-ravaged Raiders, with first choice outside backs Edrick Lee (broken arm), Sandor Earl (elbow) and Blake Ferguson (suspension) also sidelined.
