Shortened finals likely after rain
« on: July 22, 2013, 06:08:07 PM »
The Canberra Raiders Cup finals series is likely to be condensed by a week to accommodate Sunday's washed-out fixtures.

Belconnen United coach John Hawke has called for the three-week finals system to be retained in the long term, saying it is the fairest format for the higher-placed sides.

Three games featuring the top six teams were abandoned because of the week's heavy rain. The sole fixture to be played was the bottom-of-the-table clash between Gungahlin and West Belconnen.

Playing games midweek was an option, but the affected clubs are expected to recommend to the Canberra Raiders Cup committee on Monday that they be made up at the end of the season.
