Queanbeyan Kangaroos 14 defeated Queanbeyan Blues 12 at Freebody Oval

The Kangaroos have handed the Blues just their second loss of the season and given themselves a timely boost in confidence as the semi-finals of the TTM Canberra Raiders Cup fast approaches.

In what was typical of the renowned Queanbeyan derby, both sides registered an admirably spirited performance and although they were beaten by the better side on the day, the Blues can look forward to attempting to extract revenge on their cross-town rivals in the not too distant future, with both sides firming as front-runners to the 2013 silverware.

The top of the table Blues had thrashed the Kangaroos 44-12 earlier in the year and although Kangaroos Coach Aaron Gorrell was pleased with the team’s performance, he knows that the victories in the semi-finals are vastly more important.

“We'll get a bit out of it, but we've got to keep a lid on it, it's only a competition game,” Kangaroos coach Aaron Gorrell said.

“The next month counts a little bit more than that, but it's good to get one up on them because they gave us a bit of a lesson the first time we played them.

“We just took our opportunities that we got, it was a very tough game. It was the best I've seen all year.”

Although the Blues are by far the best side statistically in the competition, the win by the Kangaroos has enabled them to climb to within two competition points to their rivals on the ladder.
