NYC Match Report: Raiders just one match away from Grand Final
« on: September 20, 2013, 05:17:26 PM »
The Huawei Canberra Raiders Under 20s side is just one game away from the Holden Cup Grand Final after beating the Wests Tigers 36-16 this afternoon at Allianz Stadium.

The Raiders were in control the whole match utilising controlled attack and rock solid defence to prevent the Tigers from ever really getting into the game.

The Green Machine opened the scoring in the 10th minute when a nice break from Luke Bateman culminated in a try for centre Brenko Lee. Unfortunately, Mitch Cornish was unable to convert from the sideline.

The Tigers looked to have struck back minutes later when a grubber from Matt Mulcahy saw Kurtis Rowe cross. However, the try was denied by the video referee who ruled that the Tigers’ kick chase was offside.

Winger Jonathon Reuben extended the Raiders’ lead in the 20th minute when he crossed on the back of a dropped bomb from Tigers winger Salesi Funaki. This try also went unconverted.
