RNA Website Data Centre Receives $60m Upgrade
« on: November 22, 2012, 12:53:51 PM »
Earlier this year the data centre that hosts the raiders.net.au website received a huge $60m upgrade by the centre's owners, Fujitsu Australia. As well as security and connectivity enhancements, the upgrade has made the data centre "one of the most energy efficient facilities of its size in the country." The article below has more details about this upgrade.

Fujitsu Unveils $60 Million Data Centre Upgrade

The Noble Park facility is now a high capacity, high sustainability link in Fujitsu’s 100-strong global data centre network.

Fujitsu, a leading provider of ICT business solutions, today announced the official opening of a multimillion dollar upgrade to its Melbourne data centre. The Victorian Minister for Technology, The Hon. Gordon Rich-Phillips MP, today officially brought online the upgraded facility located at Noble Park, Victoria.

The $60 million investment by Fujitsu focused on security, connectivity and availability enhancements to provide its 2,000 Australian enterprise and government customers with increased access to secure hosting services. Fujitsu also weighs the environmental sustainability of its data centres and Noble Park is now operating as one of the most energy efficient facilities of its size in the country.

Mike Foster, Chief Executive Officer of Fujitsu Australia and New Zealand said, “In the last few years Fujitsu has made significant local investments in new technology areas including data centres, cloud services, application development and managed services. We will continue to invest in ensuring that our customers have access to the best possible infrastructure in the region. The Noble Park upgrade is consistent with this strategy. The facility makes a key contribution to Fujitsu’s global data centre capability, which includes over 100 data centres worldwide.“

The Noble Park facility, which was purpose-built for Fujitsu in 1988, is a 6,700m² building on 18,600m² of land. Following this latest significant upgrade to Tier III standards, the design incorporates 4 main data halls suitable for cabinet and cage installations. Fujitsu data centres have a power usage effectiveness (PUE) target of 1.7 and the company reports all greenhouse gas emissions produced by Noble Park, as well as all others in its Australian data centre network, to the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting System (NGERS).

Speaking at the official re-opening today, Mr Rich-Phillips said he welcomed the further expansion by Fujitsu in Victoria as a significant contributor to the Victorian economy and community, employing almost 1,000 Victorians.
