Canberra Raiders prop David Shillington will be assessed later in the week, but has been named in the Raiders side to take on the North Queensland Cowboys on Monday night at Canberra Stadium.
Early reports thought Shillington may miss 2-3 weeks with an oblique injury, but Raiders medical staff are now hopeful the test prop may be right to take his place on the field against the Cowboys.
Hard hitting back rower Josh Papalii has also received some favourable news, with scans confirming he’ll be fit to train later in the week after he receives treatment for his quad strain. This means he’ll be fine to take his place on Monday night.
Prop Dane Tilse is still a week away from recovering from a rib injury and remains unavailable for selection this week.
After a recent run of injuries Raiders Coach David Furner said the team was still confident of producing the same type of performance they did against the Tigers and said it’s important to build on the win.
“I think the second half against the Roosters was the only bad half of footy we’ve produced all year and we’ll be looking to get plenty of confidence out of the win against the Tigers last night,” Furner said. “We’ve had a few hurdles with injury over the first few weeks but as I said last week I know we have some good depth in the squad who can come in and handle it.”
After a stunning performance at fullback last week Reece Robinson retains the custodian role for the match, with Blake Ferguson remaining in his usual position on the right wing.
Opposite winger Jack Wighton is free to play for the Raiders after the match review committee said he had no case to answer for his challenge on Benji Marshall.
