Canberra veteran Dane Tilse believes a return to football as soon as possible would help Blake Ferguson beat his alcohol demons as the Raiders strive to convince the NRL he's ready to return next weekend.
The troubled centre pleaded not guilty to indecent assault charges in Waverley Local Court on Tuesday, the day his NRL-imposed four-week suspension expired.
Ferguson is almost no hope of being granted permission to play Parramatta on Saturday as the NRL demands he finish a rehabilitation and counselling program before he is eligible for selection.
Fairfax Media understands the Raiders will hold discussions with NRL powerbrokers explaining why a return as soon as they see fit would aid Ferguson's wellbeing.
They remain hopeful the wayward star will be allowed to return against St George Illawarra at Wollongong next weekend.
